Agility is a great and fun way to not only train your dog, but is a challenging & rewarding experience as well.
Any size, age or breed of dog (or person) can join in on the agility fun! Your dog only needs to know some amount of obedience commands such as sit & stay, but those can also be worked on & improved upon during Agility classes.
Beginner dogs start out on leashes, and our arena is fully enclosed so there is no fear of dogs running off or being in any danger.
Once your dog progresses in his agility training, he’ll be able to be off leash while running a course, and performing sit/stays like an old pro before you know it.
If you want to learn how to communicate more successfully with your pet, give Obedience a try. You will learn basic commands such as sit, stay come, down, etc.
Arrive a few minutes before your class starts. This allows your dog to calm down before starting class.
Allow your dog to take a potty break prior to class. The grassy area outside the fence is the potty area.
Please dispose of any solid waste with the scoop and garbage can provided.
Please DO NOT feed your dog before class. This will cut down on any accidents and will assist in training.
You will need to bring your own treats for your dog. Find something your dog really enjoys and can chew/swallow within 3-5 seconds.
You may want to adjust your dog’s feed to compensate for the amount of treats given during training.
Wear comfortable and appropriate clothing as you will be getting down on the ground with your dog. Tennis shoes are recommended.
Dogs must be leashed at all times.
PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW YOUR DOG TO GO NOSE TO NOSE WITH A STRANGE DOG. Your dog may be friendly, but the other dog may be too stressed or fearful to approach.
Spectators are always welcome, but we ask they remain seated and quiet during class.
When under a storm watch or warning of any type, it is highly likely we will cancel class. We will call/message you at the number you have provided. If in doubt, please call/message us.
If class is cancelled, we will push back everything one week to make up.
If you have to cancel for any reason, give us a call.
Obedience Payments should be made to Kat Cline. Agility payments should be made to Deb Zimbler. Class fee is due no later than 2nd week of class. Cash or check accepted.
Vaccinations are required before starting class. Be prepared to provide veterinary info if asked.
We encourage all family members to spend time training the dog. For the dog’s sake, everyone should be consistent by using the same technique and commands. Using different commands will confuse the dog.
A 6-foot nylon or leather leash is recommended. Chain or Flexi-type (retractable) leads will not be allowed.
Flat or buckle collars are recommended. If we determine another type of collar will be of more value in training your dog, we’ll discuss that with you.
*If your dog is sick or in heat, please leave them at home. You are encouraged to come to class without your dog so you don’t fall behind.
*Please call us at least 30 minutes before class if you are going to miss.
Deb has had dogs all her life and was the owner and operator of Critters Dew Drop Inn Boarding Kennel for 5 years. She got her first Border Collie and started with sheep herding. She then discovered Agility a year later and learned as much as she could about the sport through books and on the internet, as there was nobody else in the Northwoods involved in Agility at that time.
She started competing in 1999 with her Border Collie, Fly, and completed 9 titles. Deb started teaching agility classes in 2000, and that was the start of Northwoods K9 Sports. She keeps up on the latest training methods by attending seminars and received her Instructors Certification from Bud Houston in 2004.
Some of the other classes Deb has taught include Flyball, Disc dog and Trick class.
Kat started in Agility with her first Border Collie, Gem. Kat and Gem have successfully completed 9 titles. Now Kat has started competing with her new dog, Bella and has already completed her first title!
Kat has been involved with dogs for over 20 years and has raised and competed in obedience with German Shepards for several years. She has been involved with the Leader Dog for the Blind puppy raising program for 12 years, and has had 9 of the 10 puppies she has raised and trained go on to be Seeing Eye Dogs.
She has also taught Trick and K9 Dance classes.
